When Inspiration Strikes

Slow, rainy mornings bring me such joy. They give me space to really think and let my mind wander through the vast expanses of creativity. This morning, though, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I got here.

I never imagined becoming a parent, let alone a children’s book author and poet. Honestly, when I first started thinking about writing back in high school, I imagined becoming a boys’ love author. I was obsessed with YAOI and fully convinced I’d grow up writing romance and erotica. Oh, how the tides have turned.

Somewhere along the way, my writing shifted from hidden passions to bedtime adventures, poems about emotion, and, most recently, speculative horror. Whatever lingers in the moment of creativity is usually what I end up chasing.

This morning, though, while listening to toddler techno and playing I Spy with my daughter, I found inspiration.
