Welcome
This is where my writing lives—from children’s stories to editorial work — built with care, curiosity, and intention.
About
Destany Stevens
I'm a children's book author, freelance copywriter, and editorial professional who believes stories should do more than entertain. They should make people feel seen, spark connection, and move us to care.
My work lives at the intersection of creativity and purpose, spanning children's books, professional resume writing, and storytelling for mission-driven organizations. I've partnered with community-focused initiatives like United Way, where I served as a Loaned Executive for my financial institution and helped raise $1 million in support of local programs.

What I Bring to the Work

Author Destany Stevens and illustrator Cassandra Ross seated at a table during a Books-A-Million book signing for Goodnight, Wiggles.
When I worked with my local United Way as a Loaned Executive, I shared my story and the stories of others to rally support for critical community programs. During the annual Give Back Campaign, the most rewarding moment came at a local high school.
Most of the rallies I ran and spoke at were in professional workplaces: financial institutions, schools, and local businesses. You prepare yourself for emotion, but you also expect to keep moving. At the end, when a teacher pulled me to the side, I remember her curly, dark-speckled hair and the faint smell of coffee on her breath. The most vivid part was when she took my hand and thanked me. Her eyes filled as she spoke, and so did mine.
This stranger had heard my speech and felt compelled to share her own. She told me how programs funded by United Way supported her after leaving an abusive marriage. She thanked me for helping fund the very resources I had just asked the room to believe in.
That moment stayed with me.
Storytelling is essential to communication, and I believe we all have a story to tell, even when we struggle to share it. It is the foundation for crafting a lasting message.
My creative work is rooted in purpose, and that belief shapes how I approach every project I take on. I pursue writing that spans professional copywriting and meaningful storytelling, with an emphasis on empathy and accessibility. My upcoming children’s book, Burnt Toast, is inspired by my mother’s experience as a burn survivor and focuses on kindness, acceptance, and belonging. By centering emotional understanding rather than physical trauma, I aim to create stories that open conversations and foster compassion.
As both a writer and a mother, I approach my work with intention, believing that even one story, thoughtfully told, has the power to matter.
